Awilco orders $197M in gear ahead of rig order

Drilling contractor Awilco Offshore has secured a drilling package from National Oilwell in Kristiansand, Norway for a fourth new-build, semi-submersible drill rig not yet ordered.

Awilco retains an option on a fourth rig — it has three under order at Yantai shipyard in China — until November 2008.

The newest drilling package is an upgraded version and is worth $197 million.
