Brazil approves Peregrino plan in record time

Norwegian oil company Hydro (soon to be StatoilHydro) reported Wednesday that its plan for the development of the Peregrino field offshore Brazil has been approved by the Agencia Nacional do Petroleo in Rio de Janeiro.

It took just a month to approve a concept involving a floating production, storage and off-loading vessel, or FPSO, plus two drilling platforms, 30 production wells and seven water-injection wells.

Maersk Contractors will rent out and operate the FPSO, while Kiewit Offshore Services of Texas will supply the two drilling rigs Subsea 7 will connect fields to ships via pipelines and risers.

Peregrino and its possible 600 million barrels of heavy oil sit 85 kilometers offshore in 100 metres of water. Hydro and partner Anadarko are drilling a delineation well in the field’s southwest.
