Aussie gas utility AGL has farmed Epic Energy in for the construction of a $140-million gas pipeline two Australian regions, it was understood Friday.

Moving gas from onshore terminals to markets east in New South Wales is the aim of the QSN Link, a 180-kilometre, 350-millimetre high-pressure gas pipeline. Epic Energy will build, own and operate the Link, plus new compression facilities as an extension of its South West Queensland pipeline.

The deal helps AGL meet a 20-year gas-supply contract with gas-fired power plants in the cooler south of the continent-sized country.

The new line links up with eastern Australia’s pipeline network and AGL's wholesale, coal seam methane gas hub at Moomba “at prices below existing contract levels”.

A statement said the pipeline will support new upstream gas projects now being worked on.
