Alstom helps Middle East market with €150M order

Published Jul 10, 2007

Paris-based energy-services company Alstom has done its part to create a gas market in the Middle East with a €150M order to install five gas turbines in Kuwait at the new Az Zour power plant being built in Kuwait.

The GT13 turbines and TOPAIR turbogenerators for the 800 MW Az Zour plant is Alstom’s first gas turbine sale in Kuwait since the 1960s. Al Ghanim International Trading & Contracting Co. said Alstom’s record for commissioning projects within 12 months sealed the deal.

The Az Zour power plant is one of the power projects the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) of Kuwait hopes will address a 5 GW power shortage expected by 2010.
