Imperial Energy has had a “constructive” meeting with the Russian Environment Ministry’s supermajor nemesis Oleg Mitvol in Tomsk region, where the company recently built two pipelines.
Mitvol, a deputy head of the Ministry’s Rosprirodnadzor watchdog agency, informed Imperial chairman Peter Levine about “violations” resulting from a hired contractor’s building of pipelines in a forest fire zone.
Mitvol extracted a promise to “remedy” the problem as well as the release of whatever reserves data was not already on the record, judging by a Ministry memo of the meeting.
Rosprirodnadzor is the Federal Service for the Control and Use Of Natural Resources, the arm’s length inspectorate that spearheaded environmental damage claims leveled at Shell at Sakhalin, BP at Kovytka and Total in Eastern Siberia.
