Rig-maker Lamprell has announced Scorpion International Ltd is the orderer of a $168 million rig reported earlier this week by OilGas24.com.

Over the next month, Scorpion will piece together the finances for the LeTourneau Super 116E jack-up drilling rig. Options have been agree, and they must be declared over the next year-and-a-half, a statement said.

It’s the first deal between Scorpion and the U.A.E.-based Lamprell, whose customers now include BG Group, Noble Drilling, SBM Offshore, Saipem and Nabors Drilling International.

Lamprell has grown rapidly during the oil and gas industry’s strong last three years. A new Lamprell facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone opened in 2002 and has been busy since.
