Sakhalin Energy has started drilling Russia’s first two offshore gas-production wells from the Lunskoye-A platform in the Russian Far East after the Shtokman exploration wells in the Barents Sea.
The plan for 2007 is to drill the re-injection well for drill cuttings and later one for gas production. Among the 14 wells planned, an oil/rim appraisal well, a produced-water re-injection well and 11 gas producers in store.
The cuttings well and first gas well 15 kilometres off northeastern Sakhalin Island will bring the project on stream, as the platform with earthquake defences provides the main production for liquefied natural gas, or LNG, to new energy markets in the Pacific Rim economies.
Later this year, the commissioning of Russia’s first LNG plant, PA-B topsides and the completion and testing of pipelines will be carried out.
Drilling waste from the Lunskoye-A well will be transported for injection to the Molikpaq platform, zero discharge has been practiced since May 2004.
