Calgary-based North Sea explorer Antrim Energy has declared its latest Central Causeway well flowed a combined 6,300 barrels of light crude oil per day from two rock strata.
Well 211/22a-6 drilled directionally through the Middle Jurassic Brent Group of sandstones to a depth of 3,739 metres. The Ness and underlying Etive formation were tested from a combined 80 feet of perforations.
“Electric log and test data indicates that the 22a-6 well has intersected a gross oil column of 233 ft.,” a statement said, adding, “The tests confirm a substantial oil column extending downward into the Etive Formation” which was not penetrated in Antrim's original East Causeway discovery.
“Oil has now been established in each of the four main fault compartments on the Causeway trend. Wells drilled in the two East Causeway compartments flowed at rates of 14,500 bopd and 8,000 bopd. The undeveloped and subsequently abandoned 22a-3 well drilled in the Southwestern compartment flowed 5,500 bopd.
A second of three wells at the Causeway goes in later this week.
