Ability rig order marks Norwegian walk in desert

Norway-based Ability Drilling has executed an option and ordered an onshore drill rig and a workover rig from southwest Norwegian TTS Marine Drilling equipment, a business of Sense EDM of Kristiansand.

The NOK130 million ($20.2 million) deal secures delivery by the autumn of 2008 of 42 drill rigs and work-over rigs.

The contract is proof of Ability’s rapid expansion in land drilling, unique in Norway, and the company has in a year made inroads into establishing Libya, Maltese and United Arab markets and supply centres.

Ability managers in February decided to debt-finance for NOK450 million aimed at gaining market share for land drilling geat said to include “North Sea” innovations for crew safety.
