Pakistani National utility Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd. has chosen Shell, Total and ENI among some seven others to build its first import terminal for liquefied natural gas, it was learned today.
News of a tender for a plant just south of Karachi, the capital, was sent out on February 20 and reported by OilGas24 forthwith. Reuters reported the shortlist announcement Monday.
By 2010, SSGC hopes to import 3.5 million tonnes per year by “firm off-take” sales agreement of “at least 20 years.”
“Our intentions are to have the terminal before the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline can be laid in 2009/2010,” Reuters reported the minister as saying. India and Iran look to be partners in the building of $7-billion gas pipeline by the end of June, the report said.
