Lukoil’s overseas operator, Lukoil Overseas, has struck oil at the Condor field, Colombia, where 100 million barrels are believed hidden, it was learned Thursday.

It’s the first Russian oil discovery in the Western Hemisphere, Lukoil heralded.

Not wasting time, 4,000 barrels of high-quality “Vasconia blend” were sold to North American customers.

Well Condor-1 was drilled a hill 1,000 metres above sea level and went down 4.5 kilometres. The 3,000 sq. km. block 30-percent shared with Ecopetrol National Oil Co.

Lukoil hopes to add 1.9 billion barrels of oil equivalent by drilling at 17 sites around the world by 2016.
