BG Group has finalized a deal to supply Chile's first import terminal for liquefied natural gas, or LNG, a project expected to supply 40 percent of the country’s needs.

A $775 million engineering, procurement and construction contract went to the Chicago Bridge & Iron Co., or CB&I. Project company GNL Quintero SA will own and operate the terminal, a job that includes the hire of more service suppliers.

CB&I mus also build a new marine jetty with complete ship unloading facilities, two large full containment LNG storage tanks and a smaller storage tank.

The terminal will go in at Quintero Bay, 110 kilometres northwest of Santiago. BG is a 40 percent partner in the regasification project set to open in early 2009, with ENAP, Spain’s Endesa and utility Metrogas also onboard.
