Calgary based oil company Antrim has started drilling the first of two exploration wells at the Meianera license in Rio Negro Province, central Argentina.

The 14-day operation is targeting “a Jurassic sequence” some 1,400 metres deep and identified by “3D” seismic. A second well in the area kicks off in June.

In southern Argentina, on the Tierra del Fuego licences, Antrim is on schedule to drill in late June or early July, 2007. A rig has been contracted for two years and will be dedicated to Antrim's Tierra del Fuego licences.

In 2006, Antrim added over 93 percent to its reserve base in Argentina via drilling success.
