Davie to build half-dozen hotel ships

Up to six offshore “hotel ships” will be built at the Norwegian-owned Davie Yards in Quebec City, Canada by new entity Ocean Hotels, supported by market money in Oslo.

The Vik-Sandvik designs will follow recent orders at Davie for three offshore construction vessels for Cecon ASA.

A possible use for the vessels comes as offshore quarters in strife-torn coastal areas.

“A semi-submersible accommodation rig with corresponding hotel capacity costs three times as much,” Norwegian investor Tore Enger was quoted by newspaper Dagensnaeringsliv as saying, adding the vessels are not intended for North Sea service.

Davie Yard at the foot of Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City was bought out last year by Norwegian interests headed by Enger.
