NNPC, Total eye 100,000 bpd Ofon 2

Published Jul 19, 2007

Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. and Elf (Total) have started Phase 2 of the Ofon field development, 50 kilometres off the southwest coast of the West African country.

Total owns 40 percent in a joint venture developing license OML 102, where an extra 350 million barrels of oil equivalent are to be extracted from a 10-year-old field. Some 60,000 bpd to 100,000 bpd are expected by the end of 2010.

A processing platform, three drilling platforms and an accommodation platform for more than 120 people will be built during Phase 2.

Gas flaring in Ofon will come to an edn during this next phase, a statement said, with extra gas being sent to an LNG plant already in place. All produced water will be re-injected into the reservoir.
