Niger Delta militants have agreed to cease attacks on the oil industry in Nigeria after the release from custody of one of their leaders, who had been detained for two years.
“Mujahideen leader” Dokubo-Asari was granted bail by Abuja High Court late last week without it leading to the release of four Schlumberger Oilfield Services employees kidnapped 1 June 2007, Dow Jones reported.
According to the news agency, some 700,000 barrels remain shut-in as a result of attacks by militants who on 15 June abducted three Chinese and a Pole in the latest wave of hostage-takings.
