Oilfield services outfit Oceanteam Power & Umbilical of Aberdeen will install the sub-sea cables on E.ON’s largest-ever U.K.-sector wind farm at Robin Rigg, it was learned Tuesday.

The easy switchover from oil and gas is trendsetting, as more turbines are installed ever farther offshore.

The 60-turbine Robin Rigg farm straddles the Scottish-English border some 13 kilometres offshore Workington.

Oceanteam will earn €25 million ($33.3 million) for the work, the company’s second wind-farm contract, which begins late in 2007. Some 70 marine, installation and management personnel will find employment.

Two 132 kilovolt and 64 33 kv cables will be gathered in Norway and Italy and transported while an underground, directionally drilled conduit is made to accept an railway at the beach landfall.
