Biofuels in the United Kingdom got a boost Monday with money and sponsors announced for a Green Biologics, a company from the Oxford area bent on producing and putting biobutanol, a chemical feed, into fuels.
In-line with the rest of Europe, the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry doled out £250,000 for the “next generation” biofuel. The amount was matched by £310,000 from shareholders and business.
Starch and sugar is fermented to get biobutanol in a process that dates to 1916, when it was used in acetone for munitions. It was replaced in the 1950’s by a petro-product.
