Chevron enlists Texas university in bio-fuels push

Chevron has enrolled Texas farming expertise to help the oil company arrive at mass production of ethanol and other bio-fuels from cellulose, it was learned Tuesday.

To speed the production and conversion of crops to fuel, Chevron Technology Ventures will fund research for four years at the Texas A&M University’s Agricultural Experiment Station and Engineering Experiment Station.

The stated targets are “second-generation energy feed stocks for cellulose and bio-oils with; using genomic sciences and plant breeding for non-food crops as well as better harvesting, transport, storage and processing techniques.
