Aker Kvaerner and India-based engineering outfit, Praj Industries, will form a 40-60 joint venture to bring bio-ethanol to the European market en masse, it was understood Wednesday.
Bio-ethanol is derived from plants or wood chips and mixed into fuel to cut carbon emissions by 70 percent.
The majority owner in the venture, Praj will lend its technology to Aker Process people’s execution to offer unspecified clients process designs and construction.
Europe is targeted for new rules aimed at putting 10 percent “bio” in fuels by 2020.
Praj has used brewery, bio-diesel and waste water knowledge to gain two-decade old bio-ethanol lead.
